Notification
  • As per the decision taken by the Competent Authority of ICMR, considering the second wave of COVID-19 Pandemic and prevailing lockdown in many Indian States, due to which many Medical/Dental Colleges and the respective hospital OPDs have been closed, due to which the STS 2020 selected students are facing problems in continuing the proposed research work. Therefore, the STS 2020 online report submission deadline has been further extended till 30th November, 2021 (Tuesday by 05:00pm). All the other terms and conditions remain the same as per existing guidelines.

  • The ICMR initiated the Short Term Studentship Program in 1979 in order to promote interest and aptitude for research among medical undergraduates. The main objective of this program is to provide an opportunity to undergraduate medical students to familiarize themselves with research methodology and techniques by being associated for a short duration with their seniors on ongoing research program or by undertaking independent projects. It was expected that this may serve as an incentive for them to take up research as a career in the future.

  • During the last 37 years, medical undergraduate students of various medical colleges in the country have shown keen interest in ICMR Short Term Studentship (STS) program. The ICMR has decided to continue this program by awarding limited number of studentships to deserving MBBS/BDS students for the year 2020 from MCI/DCI recognized Medical/Dental Colleges.

  • Approximately 1500 students (1200 seats- MBBS and 300 seats- BDS) will be awarded STS in Jan 2022 after the Report submission and review for the year 2020.

  • The selected students are expected to complete the project in any two given months between January 2021 to July 2021 and submit the report before the last date of submission i.e. 30th November 2021 (Tuesday by 3:00pm). The student will be awarded stipend and e-Certificate only if his/her STS report is approved by ICMR. The Institution must provide the student with all facilities for carrying out research.

  • The value of the studentship from 2020 is Rs. 10,000/- per month for two month’s duration (Total Rs. 20,000/- only) and is meant to be a stipend for the student.

  • PLEASE NOTE:

Cost of research must be borne by Medical/Dental College/ Institution where the work will be carried out.
